“The term “Inquisition” often conjures images of the Spanish Inquisition, but many other inquisitions played significant roles in history. These institutions, established by the Catholic Church, aimed to combat heresy and enforce religious orthodoxy. In this article, we explore the major inquisitions, their origins, methods, and impacts.”
The Inquisitions: Religious Evil Sadism in the god’s name
Before we continue with the Deepseek presentation of different Inquisitions, let me tell you that this is a continuation of my article “How the Spanish Inquisition Forever Changed Ancient Mexican Mythology”. “The Medieval Inquisition
The Medieval Inquisition began in the 12th century to address religious dissent, particularly among the Cathars and Waldensians in southern France and parts of Italy. The papacy initiated this inquisition, and local bishops operated it. Unlike later inquisitions, the Medieval Inquisition lacked a centralized structure but set the stage for future efforts to combat heresy.
The Spanish Inquisition
The Spanish Inquisition, established in 1478, is the most infamous. Ferdinand II of Aragon and Isabella I of Castile requested its creation to maintain Catholic orthodoxy in their kingdoms. The Spanish Inquisition primarily targeted converted Jews (Conversos) and Muslims (Moriscos), employing severe methods to extract confessions and punish heretics. It operated until the early 19th century, leaving a lasting impact on Spanish society.

The Portuguese Inquisition
Modeled after the Spanish Inquisition, the Portuguese Inquisition began in 1536. It focused on converted Jews and other heretics, extending its reach to Portugal’s colonies. The Portuguese Inquisition used similar methods to its Spanish counterpart, including public trials and severe punishments. It persisted until 1821, influencing religious and social dynamics in Portugal and its territories.
The Roman Inquisition
Pope Paul III established the Roman Inquisition in 1542 to combat Protestantism and other heresies within Italy. Unlike the medieval version, the Roman Inquisition operated under direct papal control, making it more centralized. It is best known for its trial of Galileo Galilei in the early 17th century, where it condemned his support for heliocentrism. The Roman Inquisition played a crucial role in maintaining Catholic orthodoxy during the Counter-Reformation.
The Mexican and Peruvian Inquisitions
The Spanish Inquisition extended its reach to the New World, establishing the Mexican Inquisition in 1527 and the Peruvian Inquisition in 1570. These colonial inquisitions targeted indigenous practices, converted Jews, and other heretics. They enforced religious conformity in the Spanish colonies, shaping the cultural and religious landscapes of Latin America.
Conclusion
The inquisitions, including the Spanish, Portuguese, Roman, and Colonial Inquisitions, significantly impacted religious and political landscapes across Europe and the Americas. Each inquisition had its unique focus and methods, but all aimed to enforce Catholic orthodoxy and combat heresy. Understanding these institutions provides valuable insights into the complex history of religious enforcement and its lasting effects on society.
By exploring the history of these inquisitions, we gain a deeper appreciation for the challenges and complexities of maintaining religious orthodoxy in diverse and evolving societies. Whether through the infamous Spanish Inquisition or the lesser-known colonial inquisitions, these institutions left an indelible mark on history.”
Christian Church and its Evil Inquisitions
Evil has many faces, and the Christian Church with its sadistic inquisitions showed the worst of them.
They used demonization to persecute people. They were accusing innocent people of infidelity, which to them was a heresy, guilty of collaborating with the devil. By demonizing people, they turned them into devil’s demons, condemning them before the Inquisition, which few survived in one piece.
The evil spirit of the Inquisition and demonization of opponents of the faith and the Church still haunts Christianity and threatens unbelievers, leftists, communists and socialists, gays, members of the LGBTQIA+ community, Muslims, immigrants, blacks, sex workers, and all other free thinkers who dare to think with their heads and speak out loud and clear about the religious delusions, the harms of religion and the evils of the Christian Church.
